Due to a short term vaccine shortage Dr. Arlene King has informed Ontario that we have to use current H1N1 vaccine supplies for higher risk people.
Algoma Public Health has booked high risk patients in large numbers into our first clinics and has distributed vaccine to some health care providers so that those at high risk can get the vaccine.
Algoma Public Health will continue booking through the flu line but only people in the risk categories will be booked into the earlier clinics.
Algoma Public Health will open another clinic site in Sault Ste. Marie exclusively for high risk and will extend hours in district clinics for next week.
High risk groups are:
• People under 65 with chronic conditions
• Pregnant women
• Children 6 months to under five years of age
• People living in remote or isolated communities
• Health care workers and
• Household contacts and care providers of persons at high risk who cannot be immunized or may not respond to vaccines.
