ALL people over 6 months of age with chronic medical conditions as listed below can phone the flu line to book appointments for H1N1 vaccination. Many in this group have been vaccinated with the H1N1 vaccine and these additional bookings provide an opportunity for those who did not yet book (additional bookings for the healthy population are on hold for the time being).
People with chronic medical conditions include:
- chronic lung disease including asthma
- heart disease
- diabetes
- cancer
- compromised immunity
- kidney disease
- anemia
- morbid obesity
- children less than 18 on long-term aspirin therapy
- conditions that compromise the management of respiratory secretions and are associated with an increased risk of aspiration, such as neurologic conditions or cognitive disorders
As well, the following high risk groups are still recommended to be vaccinated:
- Pregnant women
- Children 6 months to under five years of age
- Household contacts and care providers of persons at high risk (including infants less than 6 months) who cannot be immunized or may not respond to vaccines.
