Children and H1N1 Vaccine - 2 Dose Schedule

Children are highly susceptible to the H1N1 virus. Immunizing children will help protect them and reduce transmission of the disease.

Depending on their age and health conditions, some children should receive two doses of H1N1 flu vaccine, administered at a minimum of 21 days apart.

Age Group

Recommended Dose

0 to 5 months

H1N1 flu vaccine not authorized for use

6 months to 35 months

2 doses of adjuvanted vaccine


The 2 doses should be given 21 days or more apart

3 to 9 years  - children with chronic medical conditions:

  • chronic lung disease including asthma
  • heart disease
  • diabetes
  • cancer
  • compromised immunity
  • kidney disease
  • anemia
  • morbid obesity
  • children on long-term aspirin therapy
  • conditions that compromise the management of respiratory secretions and are associated with an increased risk of aspiration, such as neurologic conditions or cognitive disorders

2 doses of adjuvanted vaccine


The 2 doses should be given 21 days or more apart

3 to 9 years (Healthy children)

1 dose of adjuvanted vaccine

10+ years

1 dose adjuvanted vaccine

 

If your child is 6 months to less than 3 years of age or is 3 to 9 years old with a chronic medical condition, make an appointment with your health care provider or at a community clinic.

If your child is a healthy 3 to 9 year old, a second dose is not necessary.
