Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is an infection caused by bacteria found in some species of ticks.  If you discover a tick on your body:

  • Carefully use tweezers to remove it from your skin.
  • Grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible.
  • Pull it straight out, gently but firmly.
  • Place the tick into a jar or screw top bottle and submit it to your local Algoma Public Health office.  A public health inspector can arrange to have the tick tested.
  • Public health division fact sheet.
