Who we are?
The Algoma Youth Action Alliance (AYAA) is a youth-led coalition engaging middle and high school aged youth volunteers in organizing community based health promotion activities.
The AYAA consists of four youth-led committees located throughout the Algoma District, including Elliot Lake, Blind River, Sault Ste Marie and Wawa. Below you will find a link for each coalition displaying their health promotion community activties and events designed by youth representatives.
AYAA VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Each year AYAA committees enjoy several accomplishments.
As a volunteer member of one of the four commiittees in the Algoma Youth Action Alliance, youth have several opportunities to participate in unique activities and learning experiences.
The committees meet once a month. Refreshments and snacks are provided for the meetings.
Volunteer coalition members will have opportunities to:
• Chair of meetings.
• Report on events happening in their schools.
• Brainstorm ideas and plan projects and events.
• Work with the media including developing press releases, radio ads, doing television and newspaper interviews.
• Be the contact person to answer any questions about the activities.
• Be sponsored to attend out-of-town youth conferences as a coalition representative.
• Work on a sub-committee with students from other coalitions.
• Facilitate Power Point Presentations at youth conferences or community presentations.
High school students can collect mandatory volunteer hours.
Coalition work provides student members with valuable experiences for their school portfolios and future university applications.
