Two thirds of Canadians over age 15 are employees. On average, they spend about 60 percent of their waking hours at work. And when surveyed, most reported that the workplace is an appropriate place to promote health issues. After all, what happens in the office, on the plant floor, or wherever Canadians might work, can have a profound impact on their overall health.

Employees who have the benefit of optimal health are more likely to be at work and performing well. Good employee health makes good business sense!

Sun Safety

Sun Safety

Sun is the primary cause of skin cancer which means that those workers who are constantly outdoors because of their job, are at higher risk for developing skin cancer due to long periods of sun exposure, especially during the spring and summer months when ultraviolet radiation levels are high

For individual workers, prevention efforts can decrease the need for surgery or other treatments for skin cancer removal and the accompanying pain and disfigurement.  For employers, prevention of skin cancer can result in:

  • Improved health of their employees
  • A decrease in time away from work due to treatment of the skin cancer, including appointments, biopsies, surgery and subsequent recovery and stress
  • Maintenance of productivity levels
  • Lower cost of health benefit programs
