Disease and Illness

Infectious diseases are caused by microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi.  These diseases can be spread from person to person, from animals/insects to humans, from contaminated food or water, or exposure from the environment.

Algoma Public Health provides services to help prevent and control or minimize infectious diseases. APH services include: immunizations, counseling, responding to reports of communicable diseases within our community, education, and animal bite reporting.

Disease can also be caused by genetic disorder or inherited disease.

In these cases, Algoma Public Health provides genetic testing and counseling services.
