Algoma Public Health Initial Reaction to Release of Assessor’s Report Recommendations

Staff of Algoma Public Health was pleased that recommendations from the much anticipated Assessment of the Board of Health for the District of Algoma Health Unit were made public today. Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Dr. Eric Hoskins, released the findings and shared government actions at a press conference held in Sault Ste. Marie today.

“This announcement is evidence that the provincial government takes very seriously the importance of effective public health leadership in this province,” said Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, Acting Medical Officer of Health. “I want to acknowledge the excellent work of Algoma Public Health staff in responding to and supporting public health in our communities over this last while,” she added.

Acting Chief Executive Officer, Sandra Laclé echoed Dr. Sutcliffe’s assessment, adding, “The staff have not skipped a beat while the recent reviews have been taking place. The report recommendations are not about the performance of APH staff. To the contrary, important public health work has continued seamlessly during this time of review and transition.”

Algoma Public Health is carefully reviewing the report recommendations, including implications for its regularly scheduled Board of Health meeting, Wednesday, June 17.
