In-person learning permitted to resume in Sault Ste. Marie high schools

Thu, Jan 21, 2021

In review of recent epidemiologic trends, and in collaboration with Algoma school boards, in-person learning will be permitted to resume in Sault Ste. Marie high schools on January 25, 2021. Instructions and recommendations issued to Algoma school boards on January 8 are no longer in effect.

Students and parents are encouraged to visit the website of their school and school board for more information on ongoing options for both in-person and virtual learning.

Algoma Public Health continues to support all members of the school community to stay safe in the school environment. This includes daily screening for all staff and students, staying home if ill, and following mandatory masking at all times while in the school setting.

Outside of the school setting, students and staff must continue to follow all provincial requirements of the province-wide shutdown:

  • Under Ontario's Stay-At-Home order, everyone should stay home as much as possible, with the exception of essential purposes such as work, school, health appointments, and obtaining essential goods and services

    • By law, indoor social gatherings are not permitted with people you do not live with
    • By law, outdoor gatherings of more than 5 are not permitted

  • Avoid close contact with anyone you do not live with, by staying 2 metres apart, and wearing mask or face covering
