Protect yourself and your family: get your COVID-19 and flu vaccinations!

Thu, Oct 05, 2023

As we head into respiratory illness season, Algoma Public Health is encouraging residents to get their COVID-19 and flu shots when they become available.

“Vaccination is the most effective way to protect yourself and your family this respiratory illness season and can help avoid losing time from work, school, or other activities you enjoy,” said Dr. Tuinema, Associate Medical Officer of Health at Algoma Public Health.

The COVID-19 and flu vaccines can be administered during the same appointment and are a key step in keeping healthy this season. Both vaccines will be available at participating pharmacies, participating primary care providers and at public health community clinics.

Both the COVID-19 and influenza vaccines are safe and effective for people aged six months of age and older. The vaccines will be available to the highest risk-populations first, followed by the general public later this month.

“In addition to staying up to date on your vaccines, stay home when you feel sick, wash your hands often, and cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. You can also consider wearing a mask in crowded or closed spaces, especially if you are at higher risk,” said Tuinema.

In Algoma, if you would like to book a COVID-19 or flu shot at a public health community clinic, online and phone line bookings start on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.
