Registered Dietitian
The Registered Dietitian (RD) is a member of the Community Wellness team, which is responsible for the delivery of the requirements mandated by the Ontario Public Health Program Standards, including Chronic Disease Prevention and Well-Being, Healthy Environments, and Substance Use and Injury Prevention standards.
The RD supports effective, evidence-informed public health practice by assisting in the development, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition-related programming.
As part of your work you will:
- Assist in the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of evidence and guidance related to nutrition and public health action.
- Participate in internal and external work groups related to nutrition, food insecurity, food systems, healthy eating, and mental health and wellness related to nutrition and healthy lifestyles.
- Work collaboratively as part of interdisciplinary teams with both internal and external partners.
- Apply expertise in population nutrition to internal programming.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills for this position include but not limited to:
- Four (4) year Bachelor degree in foods and nutrition or equivalent program from a recognized university with an emphasis in public health or community nutrition.
- Completion of an accredited dietetic internship.
- Master of Public Health, Nutrition, and Dietetics or equivalent is considered an asset.
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
- Knowledge of human nutrition and key health promotion strategies, including awareness raising; advocacy and development of environmental supports and healthy public policy; social marketing strategies; behaviour change theory; and community development approaches.
- Experience in health promotion, community needs assessment, knowledge translation, community engagement, and advocacy to address the broader determinants of nutrition and health.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and organizations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrates personal initiative, and constructive problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work with priority populations using tact and sensitivity.
- Ability to establish priorities and balance multiple projects.
- Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Must be reliable and have a good attendance record.
- Ability to work outside regular business hours, including weekends and evenings, as required.
- Advanced oral and written proficiency in English is essential. Proficiency in both official languages, as well as knowledge of additional languages relevant to our diverse communities, will be considered an asset.
- Requires a valid “G” Ontario Driver’s License and use of a reliable vehicle.
- Ability to travel to various locations throughout Algoma to deliver services.
- As a condition of employment, employees must meet immunization requirements in accordance with the APH Immunization policy.
- A current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) with satisfactory clearance is a condition of employment, at own expense.
