Salary:             $56,128.80 - $59,067.41

 

Position Summary
The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is a member of the Algoma Public Health (APH) team. This position supports APH programs and is responsible for the delivery of the requirements mandated by the Ontario Public Health Program Standards. The RPN works in collaboration with internal and external partners to promote the health of children, youth, adults, families and communities. The RPN supports the delivery of public health programs and services using relevant standards of practice, practice guidelines and protocols. Activities may include clinical services, immunization record assessment, harm reduction, collaboration, and meaningful client/community engagement.

 

Role and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Operate within the mission, vision, values, strategic direction and policies of APH.
  • Support Immunization program delivery including immunization record assessment and record maintenance for children in schools and licensed childcare settings.
  • Work with clients and community partners in the delivery of harm reduction programs, including the distribution of supplies.
  • Healthy sexuality clinic services including dispensing of birth control, interacting with clients in a professional manner, providing client care with established nursing standards and principles and administrative policies as well as report and record vital signs, symptoms and conditions of clients and initiate remedial health measures where appropriate.
  • Chart in an electronic health record and other relevant electronic databases.
  • Track and support the ordering of program and clinic supplies as needed.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and ensure that all information is collected in accordance with APH policy and privacy legislation.
  • Utilize evidence-informed practice.
  • Transport, lift and carry equipment and supplies up to 20 lbs.
  • Comply with workplace safety policies and procedures including PPE requirements.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills for this position include (but not limited to):

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certificate.
  • Proficient technical skills in the areas of documentation using database software.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact in a non-judgmental manner with culturally diverse populations and people experiencing a wide range of social conditions.
  • Ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality and ethical conduct.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices.
  • Comply with workplace safety policies and procedures, including PPE requirements.
  • Undertake and participate in professional development opportunities and any required training.
  • Preference will be given to those with experience in implementing health equity strategies and working with diverse populations.
  • Advanced oral and written proficiency in English is essential, proficiency in both official languages considered an asset.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours, including weekends and evenings, as required.
  • As a condition of hire, you are required to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine series, per our COVID-19 Immunization policy. Should you be the successful candidate, you will be required to comply with our COVID-19 Immunization policy that is in effect.
  • Maintains current Ontario driver’s license and has access to a reliable vehicle with agency required insurance in order to fulfill position requirements on an occasional basis.
  • A current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) with satisfactory clearance is a condition of employment, at own expense.
