Summer Student - Corporate Services

Algoma Public Health (APH) is looking for enthusiastic and motivated students to join our Corporate Services team for the summer. This is a great opportunity to gain hands‑on administrative experience while contributing to meaningful public health work in our community. What you will be doing/key responsibilities:
- Providing friendly and professional front desk customer service.
- Greeting clients and addressing inquiries in person and by phone.
- Managing a multi-line phone system, transferring calls and delivering messages.
- Checking in clients and confirming details for clinic appointments.
- Scheduling appointments using an electronic health record system.
- Processing mail, faxes, packages and payment transactions.
- Entering data into spreadsheets and databases.
- Organizing, filing and preparing archived records for destruction.
- Supporting staff with additional clerical tasks, as needed.
Ability, Experience and Skills for this position include (but are not limited to):
We’re looking for students who are reliable, adaptable, and ready to contribute. Ideal candidates will have:
- Enrollment in post‑secondary studies and plans to return in September 2026.
- Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint 365 will be considered an asset.
- Ability to operate general office equipment and a multi‑line phone system.
- Strong customer service experience.
- Advanced oral and written proficiency in English is essential. Proficiency in both official languages, as well as knowledge of additional languages relevant to our diverse communities, will be considered an asset.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and perform frequent standing/walking.
- Flexibility to work in various programs and service areas, with training.
- Demonstrated reliability and availability to work full-time hours throughout the summer period.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as required.
- As a condition of employment, employees must meet immunization requirements in accordance with the APH Immunization policy.
- A current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) with satisfactory clearance is a condition of employment, at
own expense.
