Algoma Public Health Honours 2025 Public Health Champions and Unveils Hall of Champions

Thu, Feb 26, 2026

Algoma Public Health (APH) proudly announced its 2025
Public Health Champion – Early Years Edition recipients at the February Board of Health meeting. The awards celebrate individuals and organizations who support healthy beginnings for children ages 0–6 and their families across Algoma.

This annual recognition highlights community members who go above and beyond to help young children grow, learn, play, and thrive. Public Health Champions are advocates for healthy starts, connectors of families and communities, and equity builders who create welcoming and inclusive spaces for all.

A selection committee made up of Board Members, staff, the Medical Officer of Health, and the Associate Medical Officer of Health reviewed all nominations. The 2025 Public Health Champions are (photos included):

  • Parent/Caregiver Champion: Adam Lyons (West End T-Ball Club)

  • Professional Champion: Jenifer Bow

  • Organization Champion: H.S. McLellan (THRIVE Child Development Centre)

“These champions show us what community leadership looks like,” said Dr. Loo, Medical Officer of Health at Algoma Public Health. “By supporting young children and families during the earliest and most important years of life, they are helping build healthier, more connected communities across Algoma.”

Early childhood experiences have a lasting impact on physical, mental, and social well-being. By recognizing champions who support children and families in these foundational years, APH continues to highlight the importance of prevention, connection, and equity in building strong communities.

The ceremony also marked the official unveiling of APH’s new Hall of Champions at its Willow Avenue building. The Hall of Champions is a permanent space that recognizes Public Health Champions recipients from 2018 onward and celebrates those who have put public health into action across Algoma.
