Food recall – frozen mango products

Thu, Aug 05, 2021

A food recall has been issued for a number of frozen mango products as they have been linked to Hepatitis A infection. To date, 3 infections have occurred in Canada with none occurring in Ontario. The brands and expiration dates for these products can be found here.

If you have these frozen mango products in your home, do not eat them. If you have eaten these products within the last 14 days, contact your healthcare provider to see if vaccination against Hepatitis A may reduce your risk of becoming infected. If you have eaten these products more than 14 days ago, or suspect you have, self-monitor for the following symptoms:

o   Fever

o   Dark urine

o   Loss of appetite

o   Fatigue

o   Nausea / vomiting

o   Abdominal pain / cramping

o   Jaundice (yellowing of skin and/or eyes)

Hepatitis A is a liver disease caused by the hepatitis A virus. Hepatitis A is usually spread by eating or drinking food or water contaminated with the virus. It may also be spread through close contact with an infectious person.

For more information on this outbreak and how to safely dispose of recalled food, please see this public health notice from the Public Health Agency of Canada or contact Algoma Public Health.
