New clinic dates added for Bivalent booster dose

Mon, Oct 03, 2022

Algoma Public Health has added new clinic dates in Sault Ste. Marie offering the Moderna bivalent mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.  This vaccine offers protection against severe illness from COVID-19, and provides more targeted protection against the Omicron variants.

All adults 18 years of age and older are eligible to receive the Bivalent vaccine as a booster dose.  It is recommended that this booster dose be received 6 months (168 days) after a previous dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

“Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 remains a simple and critical layer of protection to stay healthy this fall,” said Dr. John Tuinema, Acting Medical Officer of Health Algoma Public Health. “Booster doses are recommended because over time, protection from COVID-19 vaccines decrease. A booster reminds your immune system how to protect itself and improves your protection against COVID-19.”
