Water Advisory Lifted Along West Shore of St. Joseph Island
Thu, Jul 31, 2025
Algoma Public Health is lifting the water advisory that was issued for users of the St. Marys River along the western shore of St. Joseph Island. This advisory was issued in response to an oil spill reported to Algoma Public Health on July 30th, 2025.
The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks (MECP) has confirmed that no visible sheen remains on the river.
Recreational use of the St. Marys River (i.e., fishing, swimming, boating) can resume, however as a general precaution users should not drink or come into contact with the water if a noticeable sheen is present. It is recommended that you continue to monitor your shoreline at your property. To report a concern, please contact MECP - Spills Action Centre at 1-800-268-6060.
