Algoma Public Health is the principal authority for the enforcement of the Ontario Building Code & Act as they relate to private on-site sewage systems in all areas within the District of Algoma.  Our authority is limited to a capacity not exceeding 10, 000 litres of designed sewage flow.

Systems larger than 10, 000 litres per day and off-lot (communal) sewage systems are regulated under the Ontario Water Resources Act. Approvals are issued by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP).

Applications must be completed by the owner of the property or an authorized agent of the owner.

 

Design work and approved installation must be completed by, a licenced sewage system installer with a valid BCIN*, the property owner or another qualified individual.

 

*BCIN must be registered and current on the Provincial QuARTS Public Search Registry.

 

 

Application for a Permit to Construct or Demolish & Design Layout

Required for all new construction, replacements, major repairs and demolitions.

 

Performance Level Review Application

Required for renovations, additions, certain new construction projects including garages and decks. 

 

File Search Request Form

Recommended for all real estate transactions to confirm legal documentation on sewage system and other records retained by APH.
