The Gender Unicorn

The gender unicorn was created to help people understand and explain differences and interconnectedness of terms like gender identity, gender expression, sex assigned at birth and sexual orientation.

Terminology:

 

Below are some common terms to be aware of. Please note that terms and definitions will change over time as changes in thinking and attitudes towards vocabulary about sexual orientation and gender identity happen. These terms and definitions are not standardized and may be used differently by different people and in different regions.

Hormonal Therapy

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for trans and non-binary people in Ontario is no longer a specialty area. If you are thinking about starting hormonal therapy talk to your Health Care Provider or contact Rainbow Health Ontario to find a Health Care Provider.
