Physical activity is movement which engages skeletal muscles and which requires energy expenditure. These activities are accomplished by movements such as, walking, cycling doing indoor and outdoor chores, playing and actively working. These movements also increase heart rate and breathing.
The health benefits of being physically active are immeasurable. When people engage in physical activity we decrease our risk of chronic disease and cancers related to sedentary behaviour. The latest Cancer Care Ontario report on Healthy Weights, Healthy Eating and Active Living "highlights a considerable opportunity for cancer and chronic disease prevention effort".
