Food Handler Training
“At least one food handler or supervisor at a public food premises must be certified as a safe food handler and on-site during every hour the premise is operating”
(Ontario Regulation 493/17 Sec 32)
A self-study manual is free: Food Safety: A Guide for Ontario's Food Handlers
Contact your local APH office to register for an upcoming course or 705-759-5286 to attend a scheduled course session in Sault Ste. Marie.
The cost of the course is $35.00 and includes a probe thermometer, food safety course manual and certificate for successful participants.
Online training is offered by In Good Hands. With successful completion of the training material and examination a provincially recognized certificate will be provided.

Cost: $10.00 and candidates must meet the prerequisite requirements
This option is for those who have expired certification, previously taken the full course or who have experience and/or knowledge of proper food safety practices.

Step 3: Contact your local APH office or 705-759-5286 to arrange for a date and time to write an exam.
Training and certification not issued by APH must be recognized by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
Food Safety: A Guide for Ontario's Food Handlers is published by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and is used to develop provincial food handler training.
