Children deserve the best possible start in life. We provide a number of programs and services that can help you make healthy choices if you are thinking of having a baby, are pregnant or raising a child.

Programs:
Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program (Milk Program)
The Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program is for pregnant women in financial need. The program provides help with milk and food, along with prenatal and postpartum education, support, and referrals to community programs and resources.

Car Seat Clinic
This clinic provides proper and safe car seat installation. This clinic takes place two Thursdays afternoons per month. Appointments are 30 minutes located at the Fire Hall No.1, 72 Tancred Street. Please note this clinic is not mandatory for car seat installation.

Community Kitchens
The Community Kitchen provides low cost, nutritious meals for families, while learning about nutrition, safe food preparation, and budgeting skills. Registration and $5.00 cost is required two weeks prior to each scheduled kitchen.

Healthy Babies Healthy Children
This home visiting program works with families to provide support, parenting information, builds confidence in parenting skills, connects families to community services, encourages attachment and healthy growth and development.

Oral Health Services
The following preventative services are provided by a registered dental hygienist for children 0-17 years:
- Oral assessment
- Cleaning
- Fluoride application
- Dental health education
- School dental screening
- Financial assistance for dental treatments

Parent Child Information Centre (PCIC)
We are not taking drop-in appointments at this time, however clients are encouraged to contact the Parent Child Information Line (PCIL) to speak with a public health nurse.
Our public health nurses can provide breastfeeding support, infant nutrition information, growth and development inquires during this time.

Prenatal Education
A variety of prenatal education options are available for expectant mothers and their partners. Learn more about having a healthy pregnancy, labour, and delivery, breastfeeding, and how to care for a newborn. The options include:

Young Parents Connection (YPC)
Young Parents Connection is a unique program geared to expectant parents and parents with young children who are under age 25. This program’s new location is Algoma Public Health in Sault Ste. Marie. Supper is provided, followed by break out groups depending on the age of the children; prenatal group, You and Your Baby group, Toddler/Preschooler group, Fatherhood group, or LEAP Community Kitchen.

How Am I Growing Clinics - For Parents of Children 18 months to 3 years old
During this screening clinic you and your child will visit with community professionals about your child's growth and development, nutrition, oral health and parenting supports. Parents will be linked to community services and support as requested.

Infant & Child Development
This program provides services to children between birth and school entry who are at risk for developmental delay. Parent Child Advisers provide development assessments and programs in the home, office or during weekly clinics (by appointment only).

Parenting Programs
There are several parenting programs offered at Algoma Public Health for families with children 6 years of age and younger. Meet other parents and learn about being a new parent, attachment with your baby, playing with your child, ways to encourage language development, coping with stress and managing challenging behaviours. Preschool Speech & Language
Speech-language pathologists and communicative disorders assistants offer assessments and intervention services to children in the Algoma district from birth to grade one eligibility with speech delays (articulation, voice, stuttering), language delays and hearing impairments. The program is offered in partnership with Children's Rehabilitation Centre Algoma. Anyone can refer to the program by calling the Parent Child Information Line at (705) 541-7101 or (888) 537-5741.
Triple P
Triple P is for ALL PARENTS! The Triple P - Positive Parenting Program knows all parents have different needs. That's why Triple P offers a range of ways for you to get you parenting help. You can choose anything from a one to one session with a practitioner or a seminar series. You can choose what best suits your family! Visit www.triplepalgoma.ca for more information or to register. You and Your Baby
You and Your Baby is a six week program, offered once a week. Moms attend with their young infants, ideally 6 weeks to 4 months of age. Meet other Moms, learn and share knowledge about nutrition, safety, sleep, attachment, growth and development, and much more.
